That sharp of thinking is wonderful. His Holiness is the best thinker we can follow. It clarify me that the important thing is to do your own quest not being a follower. As we have been teached

It is our own discipline what will let us to overcome the difficulties, and finally will let us to learn compassion

In his book, "The Art of Happiness", when asked about the definition of Compassion, replied "Compassion can be roughly defined in terms of a state of mind that is nonviolent, nonharming, and non aggressive. It is a mental attitude based on the wish for others to be free of their suffering and is associated with a sense of commitment, responsibility and respect towards the other." If we all just practice and apply this way of thinking then we can finally be truly free from suffering and end all wars.
Isn't this the same philosophy of Jesus Christ? Therefore if we just follow the good teachings of our inherited religions and DETACH ourselves from their rigid institutionalized traditions and beliefs that lead to fundamentalsim then we can still call ourselves Catholics, Muslims, Presbyterians, etc. and maybe in the future these denominations that we each belong to will not be regarded as GROUPS anymore but just mere ADJECTIVES and then eventually in the remote future just gradually disappear.

Wow I am forever in awe of the Dalai Lama, such profound wisdom. Thank you for sharing this with me. I actually have a chart on my wall about controlling anger, perhaps I can translate it into English and post. The 2 things I treaure most from this interview are:

1.Buddha himself said that you are your own master and you should think things for yourself.
2.Is this what I want? Is this what I meant? Live your life in such a way that on the final day, you have no regret. That is important! That’s one question you can put to yourself always. Then I think the other question is, of course; “What is the meaning of life?”

I really have no wrods to describe how inspiring his words are. I will copy this and read over and over and over. This is my Xmas present.

That is the most inspiring piece of reading that i have had the pleasure of digesting. I personally think that the Dalai Lama is one of the most powerfully profound people who is alive today. I enjoy and am refreshed by his immensely positive outlook on life and also how much i think that he connects with the everyday people of society. I am constantly amazed at how even though being the person that he is , he still can talk to anyone like he has known them for years.
I would love to spend even five minutes with this amazing being, and even reading this interview his words completely calmed me. I have seen interviews with him on T.V. so i know how he speaks and i could imagine in calm soothing voice talking throughout the interview. You are a genuinely lucky and blessed person for having the chance to speak with him. I will be forever grateful for you posting this interview online. Thank You so much.

Thank you for sharing this interview. I envy you (not in any negative way) the amazing opportunity of spending personal time with such a soul. This time period (of world wide communications) provides us with contact no other time has known and it provides us with more opportunities to share experiences and knowledge. Perhaps even achieve the actual goal of world peace through our sharing and practice, practice, practice of compassion.

One of the true gifts to humankind today. Humbling by example yet offering the possibility of exponentially growing beyond ones conceived borders. Small and huge at the same time

What an inspirational person the Dalai Lama is - it will take time but I will start to practice controlling anger and preaching compassion. It's good that we don't now live under the threat of the "cold war" nuclear war although we now have the war on terror. why ? why ? why ?

Isn't it timely that Kundun has just been to the US, where Bush upset the Chinese by meeting with His Holiness? But, again two different ways of thinking: Bush is in the right and won't apologise for meeting Him; the Chinese believe they are in the right because Tibet is 'theirs'. Two truths = two lies. Why did Bush meet the Dalai Lama? His own motivation, no doubt. What an amazing man the Dalai Lama is. It makes me angry that he is in exile. But anger is the problem. Practise, practise, practise.

Brilliant - admiring the depth of the Dalai Lama's spontaneity as you mentioned Michael. & perfect questions & discussion which were so approachable for me. This year i've experienced much change, success yet much resistance in aspects of my life. This has been a source of anger at times & i have been practicing self-control but i run into confusion when i practice detachment - it works yet i worry that i'm compromising those & what is important to me. Reading the interview will now lead me to practicing detachment more so that i generate more positivity rather than waste time being angry or upset. Yes, life is too short, i don't want regret & to waste time...
