Well, well. It all sum up to the reciprocity law of interaction by playing the "do onto others what you´d like them do onto you" philosophy. Alpha or beta? It depends on the circumstance and I think that there might be a better way...to handle and deal with things and events in the 21 century.

Good stuff indeed. I started trying to fathom this on purchasing a copy of John von Neumann's and Hans Morganstern's "Theory of Games and Economic Behavior" written during World War II and published in 1944. It is ponderous and complex, and the patterns to follow in the real world today are far from clear unless one has Pentagon resources in staff analysis. It says nothing about Shadow or Future either, much less about Shadow of the Future.

The material you present starts from the carnage losers usually find themselves and suggests a start on proceeding toward actually doing something in the real world today. That is, start now and keep an eye on the Shadow of the Future. I would guess that the mortgage evolved as that kind of thing.

good stuff, i do see a blur where there are multiple vendors in the situation. i guess then you are the proxy and the vehicle you represent tally s the future echo score and chooses to be the winner or loser. sometimes we are mere cats paws to our master.

Michael, This is powerful stuff, I will read this again and again. I am talking this over with a friend and we will role play some scenarios and situations, with these rules in mind.

I enjoyed reading this explanation of game theory, this is something I have unconciously tried to use to run my business. I have found this theory tends to hold true for the majority of the time. The complicated part of the game and in turn life, is the player who is always nasty regardless of whether you are nasty or nice. I look forward to learning more....

t4t is mostly played by generous and broadminded people. The narrowminded ones prefer a small instantaneous success to a much bigger success that takes some effort to achieve.

Something to try with my 5-year old - interesting concept as I am trying teach her to be nice to other people but inevitably she fights with her cousin etc... :)

I can remember once punching a girl/bully at Primary school after getting so frustrated - she never came near me again - hmmn

Voila! Another meme in my thinking discovered.

I'm the Sucker - always being nice. Discovered over the years that I was inviting the others to take advantage. And also started to think that the best way to avoid a major conflict that leads to the end of a relationship is to react and have more minor conflicts (pay Nasty with Nasty).

Now it seems that someone else in the world already discovered this BVS :P

I just have to implement this in my daily behavior :). I think I'll use the repetition: TIT is coming, TIT FOR TAT

I also like the term "The Shadow of the Future".

Interesting - so the challenge is to recognize the nasty early enough so that too much damage is done before switching into T4T and punishing the nasty.

I guess that is what establishing your boundary conditions is all about - making sure that you have warning signals to alert you if others want to try and take the advantage and play nasty.

And then the other challenge is developing ways to meet that "nasty" that fit within your own moral compass and what you find is acceptable behaviour if you have a strong desire to play nice!
