Replicate the Human Brain?

Posted on March 14th, 2012 by Michael

A model that replicates the functions of the human brain is feasible in 10 years according to neuroscientist Professor Henry Markram of the Brain Mind Institute in Switzerland. ‘I absolutely believe it is technically and biologically possible. The only uncertainty is financial. It is an extremely expensive project and not all is yet secured.’

It will definitely be possible in 10 years time to model more complex functions of our brain, but if I compare the enthusiasm of the human genome project and the expectations, which were often not fulfilled, than I rather doubt, that the replication is possible within 10 years. The signal processing of each individual cell type needs to be modelled under diverse conditions of the local environment and the history of the environement (i.e. hormone levels, Ion levels, sugar level, ATP level) Add to this the individual architectures of the connections and the interaction between brain regions.

Great to be able treat to brain disorders.
I guess it’s like designing a computer but on a higher level. The difference being it won’t be able to think!

bet it makes mistakes in grammar like I do as well!

But will be able to think creatively as we know it – or just compute!
